4x4 #13 Bianca

LUCKY THIRTEEN!

Bianca and I share a love of good music and old cars. Nichola and I met B at our first ever blogmeet way back in 2007. Bianca started up the Toy Society last year, go and check it out - it is such a great idea :)

1. What is the name of your blog, and how did you come up with it?

Sadieandlance. Sadie and Lance are (two of) my Grandparents. My Grandma is
an amazing crafter and my greatest craft, baking and all round inspiration.
My sister and I did a market craft stall about 5 years ago and we were looking
for a name that was a bit old fashioned and sweet. We loved the idea of having
a reference to Grandma, but Sadie on it's own didn't feel like it was enough
so we added Papa's name too - not that he's at all crafty (he does have a
dark green thumb though). Grandma was so chuffed when we asked her if it
was ok. In the end we didn't go anywhere with our craft stall thing so when
I started my blog I used Sadie and Lance. I really love it. My Grandma reads
my blog all the time, she's 86!
2. FOUR random songs on your ipod
King of Ska- Desmond Dekker and The Cherry Pies, Choking on a Wishbone -
Architecture in Helsinki, Aisere I Love You - Yamasuki, Roots Radicals -
Rancid
3. FOUR favorite books/movies
The Harry Potter series, The Time Traveller's Wife, Little Women, Oh the
Places You'll Go by Dr Suess
4. FOUR things you can't live without
My little Smurf and Mr Sadieandlance - all my family for that matter, savoury
food, something crafty to do with my hands, music to listen to and my laptop!

Maru's blog Such cute stuff. I can't
read a word but gee I love all the cuteness.

4x4 #12 Simmone Howell

Firstly she is my friend and I love her to bits. We have known each other for 12 or so years. Many a beer was drunk at the Punters Club and a ciggy smoked whilst talking about boys and watching live music. Simmone has her own style, she makes me laugh and I never ever feel like we spend enough time together. Simmone moved to the Country last year with her husband and little boy, even more reason for our family to take that leap of faith...
Simmone has written for us and her style is distinct. I love everything she does and I'm proud as punch to see her blossom each and every day.

1. What is the name of your blog, and how did you come up with it?
My blog is called post teen trauma. I was here but I recently moved here. The name has two meanings: I am post-teen trauma and I post teen trauma...I write YA fiction. I like (old) teen movies. I am obsessive and nostalgic and I miss the arrogance of youth. I guess the trauma is about my sometime aversion to adulthood.

2. FOUR random songs on your ipod
Ipod - I only have audio books and writerly podcasts on my Ipod (how nerdy!) - So... Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde by R.L Stevenson, Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey, an interview with Carolyn 'Mountain Girl' Adams and Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf.

3. FOUR favorite books/movies
Books - Gates of Eden by Ethan Coen, Slouching towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion
Flicks - Play Misty for Me, Night of the Hunter

4. FOUR things you can't live without
Indispensibles - my fam, art, coffee, chocolate

Stiches & Craft goodness pt 1

First thing I will tell you is that Faythe Levine is going to be at the Stitches & Craft Show and you will get to see the Australian PREMIER of HANDMADE NATION!! woooo wooooooo, hey!!?

In mixtape news I can now tell you that the ROCKIN' Sublime Stitching have just become a major sponsor!! We will tell you more about the details later :)

preparing for our stall

(mixtapezine stall as drawn by my man!)

mixtapezine will be represented at the upcoming Stitches & Craft Show in Melbourne March 11-15 this year. Sime and I took a trip (with the little one in tow) to Ikea this morning. We purchased some items to make a start on our stall. Mixtape is going to be in the "indie" section of the show. It is all coming together nicely.

(lots and lots of good images to put in these beauties)

Have you ever been to the S&C Show? What did you think? Let me tell you that it's gonna be worth spending a whole day (OR two) at. So many WICKED things to do and see. You'll still have all the traditional stuff and LC are throwing some new, modern and very exciting things into the mix! We will talk more and more about it leading up to the show.

New Things

My man and I went to the movies the other day to see the new Mickey Rourke movie "The Wrestler". What a movie! I had to close my eyes quite a few times with the graphic wrestling scenes. The estranged father/daughter relationship hit home and not letting go of the past was the key theme, or should I say not knowing how to let go of the past. Lots of Hair Metal references and a killer soundtrack. Marissa Tomei looks FANTASTIC! Really nice to see a Hollywood actress aging gracefully. ANYHOW I digress. On the way to the movies we popped into Borders and picked up some mags. The latest Venus (#2 to Bust for me) and a newie (to me) Nude Magazine.

Nude Magazine is from the UK is a ripper! Lot's and lots of wicked articles, music reviews and art. There is an interview with Sunny Buick and our gallery Outre has an ad on the back page YAY!! I am very inspired, so much so that I have just ordered the back issues.

4x4 #11 Leah

Leah is one rockin' lady. I own one of her nongs, he sits proudly in my sewing room. Leah makes stunning quilts & is one witty chick. We featured her as a "crafty lady" in issue four.

What is the name of your blog, and how did you come up with it?

My blog is called Hyena In Petticoats, and the name has an interesting history - when Mary Wollstonecraft (one of the first feminist philosophers) wrote her book "A Vindication of The Rights of Woman" in 1792, she argued that women were not naturally inferior to men, but seemed to be so because they did not share the benefit of the education provided to their male counterparts.

Her book caused a huge stir, and many male critics lashed out - including one Horace Walpole (isn't that a fabulous name?), who called her a "hyena in petticoats"... something I'm sure was awfully denigrating at the time! I always had a penchant for the phrase - and decided to use it when a name change for my blog was necessary in the early days - I haven't looked back since, so I think it must suit me!

2. FOUR random songs on your ipod

I don't actually have an ipod - despite being a total Mac geek, so I'll iTunes it for you instead!

M Ward - One Magic Trick
Bright Eyes - that song with the people crashing in the plane..?
Bob Dylan - It's Alright Ma (I'm only Bleeding)
Led Zeppelin - Ramble On

3. FOUR favorite books/movies
This is an impossible question! eep! But I'll give you two of each :

books:
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Skinny Legs and All - Tom Robbins

movies:
Betty Blue - the whole big long three hour version!
Wings of Desire

4. FOUR things you can't live without

My partner, my cat, my family, and my craft!

**extra** somewhere on the web we must visit NOW!
I have a bit of a thing for found objects.

Leah, we love your style! Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us.

meet me at mikes

No introductions needed here! Pip's book is going to be released in March this year. We know how much work she has put into this and we are eagerly awaiting to get it in our hot little hands. Nichola contributed to the book also, so it's even more special!

Pre-order here

Well done Pip!

Oh Mercy!

Our friends at casadeldisco sent us a couple of copies of a sweet single "Seemed Like A Good Idea" by the band Oh Mercy.
I hate to compare them to another other band but this does remind me of the wonderful vocalist Lloyd Cole. I played it a few times loud in the car whilst driving down the coast and Molly and I were singing along in no time. It's a confident, sweet but sexy pop track that has left me dying to hear more. The two demos on the single are both gems also.
You can buy the track via itunes.
Oh Mercy are from Melbourne, Australia. For a short time Alex (the vocalist) and I worked together. We would share our love of music in between serving customers and swapped a few disc's (you loving the Byrds?)
If you like : Josh Rouse, Elliot Smith, Jason Falkner, I reckon you'd dig this band also.

Pleased to meet you 2009

Happy New Year!! Hope you had/have a great one.
We thought we'd kick of the new year with a local 4x4. Her name is Michelle and she is full of great tips and ideas for getting the most out of your blog. We are yet to meet her in person and look forward to our first mixtogether 2009 meet to do just that!

1. What is the name of your blog, and how did you come up with it?

Leni and Rose - Let's go back. It's Feb 08. And my not so new baby and I have just graduated from sleep school. So for the first time in many many months, I had time on my hands. What to do? I bought myself a laptop and stumbled into this crazy blog world. Then I started one myself, called Leni and Rose. The name of which has no amazing witty story to it, (wish it did!). No, it's just the nickname I wanted for my little girl and her second name, Rose.
2. FOUR random songs on your ipod.

Sun Hits The Sky, Supergrass
Human Behaviour, Bjork
Bohemian Like You, The Dandy Warhols
Lovefool, The Cardigans

3. FOUR favorite books/movies
Number 1 favourite is Mao's Last Dancer, Li Cunxin.
Number 2 is Clan of the Cave Bear, Jean M. Auel.
Now for a movie, Labyrinth with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.
Lucky fourth is Summer Heights High (not really a movie but it's a favourite)

4. FOUR things you can't live without

a cup of tea every day, my family, salt and vinegar chips and handbags, lots and lots of handbags!

**extra** somewhere on the web we must visit NOW!

Righto, right now, you must head over to Amitie. You must look at all that gorgeous fabric and dream of all the gorgeous things to be made with it. And when the exchange rate gets better, you can then proceed over to Pomadour24 for some stunning Japanese sewing books. Oh and and for a crafty reading fix, you can't go past here!
