word of mouth

She told her and her told me and we all skip together tra la la.......

The Cupcake Project
Draw a picture of a cupcake and then email or snail mail it.
It will then be posted on the Cupcake Project blog.
• The image can be black & white or colour, drawn, painted, sketched, a collage, a doodle, done with pencils or felt tip pens, spray painted, sewn....whatever you want!
• It can be realistic or you can let you imagination run wild
• It could be your idea of the perfect cupcake
• Or your dream cupcake

It's all about getting in touch with the bit of creativity that is inside us all but we don’t always connect with. Cupcakes are so much fun and make everyone happy.

City wants to see if she can get people from all over the world involved in this.
So please spread the word to people you know. Get your kids involved, your friends, co-workers. Have some fun!

Send your cupcake picture to either:
city@orcon.net.nz
or post to
City Down, PO Box 31871, Milford, Auckland

Go on! Make time for the small things and tell her mixtapezine sent ya!

Mixtogether inspiration

Our second Mixtogether meet will be held in August with a gift theme of 'Creative Journals'.
"You are to make or buy and decorate a journal along with some bits and pieces to use with the journal. These bits and pieces could be pencils, pens, stamps, stickers, paints etc. In fact anything that could be used in the journal to help your recipients record their creative ideas."
I will be posting some inspiration for those attending the meet over the next month.

Rbanks shows us how to make our own woodblocks. A great little tutorial over on Instructibles.

new retailer/ new regular conributor

I spent yesterday meeting up with Isy and Pip.
Isy is our latest retailer, she owns and runs a superb gallery in Fitzroy called in.cube8r. You can pick mixtape up from her for $6 and while you are there check out some top of the range artisits. We will be running a feature article on Isy with her amazing story in a mixtape issue early next year. It will come under the banner of "Business Profile".
So if you are an independent business and would like to be featured, please email us submissions.mixtapezine@gmail.com with the title BUSINESS PROFILE. We'd love to hear from you. Our first "Business Profile" will be on Nicole Mallalieu. in issue 6.
After visiting Isy I met up with Pip at a local cafe where we sat and talked for a good hour about many a topic. When then walked along Gertrude Street and I popped into a paint shop for a "special purchase" which I will blog about later in the week.

We are also VERY proud to let you know that Andrea aka Hula Seventy has come on board as a regular contributor, her first article will appear in Issue 5 and it is on one of her many collections! To me personally Andrea is nothing short of inspirational, she writes beautifully and takes stunning photos, go on and check out her blog and don't forget to let her know mixtapezine sent ya!

The next 'Mixtogether' meet will be held on Saturday August the 9th. This blogmeet will have 12 bloggers (including ourselves).
Everyone attending is to make one gift, we will then place all the gifts into a big basket and play lucky dip! The theme for the gifts for this meet is 'Creative Journals'. mixtogether #1

Yesterday Nic and I hosted our first of many "mixtogether" afternoons. We had previously organised 2 blogmeets last year and this is just an adaptation of that which we have molded in with our baby "mixtapezine".
The theme was "Use what you have". So the deal was that you had to come along with a handmade bag made from your stash and fill it with whatever took your fancy. It was great to see everybodys interpretation of the theme.
So we handed the gifts out randomly to the 10 crafty chicks that attended. We all then took a turn opening our gift and reading out aloud the card that accompanied it.
Oh what fun!! all the gifts were amazing, made and thought about with love. I kinda cheated as I picked Kirstys parcel (she makes me smile always) I will write about my gift over at my blog.
Anyhow so that was the first part of the afternoon, then we went onto what will be a given at all future meets our "Signature Quilt".
We asked all participants to come to the meet with a piece of their favourite material pre cut and then we gave everyone a piece of white cotton on which they were to write their name and then embroider it.
Here are a few that were finished yesterday. We will keep you updated on the progress!

Thanks to the following:
Sharon
Fi
Carly
Corrie
Kristy
Cam
Christie
Kitty
and my beautiful friend Jenny who kindly lets us all hangout at her heavenly store every meet xx

We will be running these meets every two months and each one will have a different theme. If you live in Melbourne and have a blog and are interested in attending please email us at
feedback.mixtapezine@gmail.com and register your interest.

Justine & Nichola xx
