Vanished!

We've had a number of zines go missing in the post recently. At first we thought maybe we'd missed posting a few zines but we soon came to realise that this definitely was not the case. A whole batch sent on the same day has vanished into the postal time warp, ugh! So to those of you that had your orders go missing we are very sorry.
While i'm on the subject of posting zines i just want to remind everyone that we are now only posting on Tuesdays and Fridays. So if you order on a Tuesday your zine will be posted out on the Friday, etc etc so please be kind to us if your order does not arrive within a week. We are doing this because it was becoming too overwhelming for us to be posting every single day with everything else that life throws at us, we hope you understand :)

our first "official swap"

We got some goodies in the mail today! Michelle contacted me last week and asked if we'd be interested in swapping mixtape for her goodies, YES! I replied.
'Mini Majellen: found things' zine
This first issue of Mini Majellen is subtitled 'Found Things' and is inspired by all the wonderfully intriguing things to be discovered in the urban environment. Each page offers you a means to explore or participate with your city in new ways, compelling you to search out things just waiting to be found. Suggestions include 'spend time in a toystore' and 'look up more often'.

Michelle also makes the coolest brooches from scrabble pieces and kindly sent us an N and a J!

issue 3!

We are in the process of collating articles for issue 3 which will be out in Feb 2008.
We have a wonderful writer and artist who lives in San Francisco who is kindly doing issue 3's cover. Her name is Annie and we just love her work. The Wrestlers are my favourite!
You can check out her blog here

If you are interested in being our guest artist for a cover of an issue of mixtape please submit a proposal (issue 4&5 are taken). We would love to have you involved somehow.

Hey if you are new to our blog 'cause you purchased a copy of mixtape at the zine fair yesterday, Hello!

Zine collecting

Justine and I have started collecting the zines of others. We've been buying up a storm on Etsy.

Do you have a zine? We'd be interested to know about it and do a swap with you. Email us if you're interested, email address in the sidebar :)

Justine and Sime will be at the Zine fair in Hawthorn Town Hall 12-5 today so if you're in Melbourne call in to say Hi and show your support to all that are there. I'll be at home minding the kids :(

things that make us smile!

Made up some A3 sized covers to use as posters in mikes, sticky and our stall at the zine fair at the Hawthorn Town Hall THIS Saturday 12-5. We both have a set proudly hanging in our respective sewing rooms!

I received THIS is the mail today. Bust has been a HUGE inspiration for me personally. It's where I discovered that I wasn't alone in liking to sew and that it didn't equate to being daggy. You could combine love for music, movies, books, art, craft, tatts.... it's all good!

yeah write!

I will be representing mixtapezine this coming week-end at the Yeah Write zine fair being held at the Hawthorn Town Hall. Check out their blog here.
We were told about this zine fair by one of the staff at Sticky.
So if you have nothing to do next Saturday from 12-5, come on down to the hall and say HI!!

Nic and I have been ordering in a heap of different zines now for the past month. There are some fantastic things being produced in house all around the world, so inspiring!
The first two I want to tell you about are from a fellow Aussie Dudley Readhead.
Bob the Superdog and Up and Down. I read Bob to my little girl and she thought it was the cutest thing and Up and Down has a mix of drawings and photos and came with a little fridge magnet. All in all when I got this parcel in the mail, I was a happy little vegimite! Pop in and see her here.

Cheers
Justine

Organisation

Mixtape has become much bigger than we anticipated which is fantastic! But like most of you out there we have kids and husbands to feed and keep out of trouble, homes to clean (ahem!) and all the other things that life throws at us to deal with on a daily basis.
We seem to be getting into a good routine with running the zine, learning heaps along the way and keeping each other on track. So we're setting Tuedays and Fridays as our Mixtape 'work days'. We will no longer be posting out zines daily as it's getting a little too much for us, instead we'll be posting in batches on our 'work days'. Keepin' it simple and keeping us sane :)

Postage days: TUESDAY'S and FRIDAY'S.

Thanks for understanding :)

crazy little thing called mixtape!

WOWZA!! The response to issue 2 has been even better than for issue 1. Thank-you so much for getting behind this little venture. We could not have anticipated the response.
Both Sticky and Mikes sold out of their initial orders and I have been into both stores this week to re-stock. Have you been into Sticky? Its a great little shop and the arcade it is in is to die for.
I took a few happy snaps to show you

If you have a copy of issue 2 you may have noticed on page 27 "Resources for introducing your child to SPANISH", has no author credit. Well it is Laura from The SeaBird Chronicles.
The Seabird Chronicles is about Lauras life as a full-time Wife and Mom and it tracks her twin toddlers as they terrorize Miami! (by way of Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Germany, and Argentina).
Thanks Laura for your contribution to our little zine ;)

Have a great week everyone!

Limited Edition contributor spotlight

Over the next week or so we will be featuring the fabulous and crafty ladies that contributed their work to the Limited Edition of Issue 2.

Gabriela Delworth

Amongst other things Gabriela creates beautiful crowns from paper like this beautiful 'Toile Paper Crown',

Based in Toronto, Canada she is a graphic designer who also works as an Arts & Crafts Instructor teaching adults and seniors a variety of classes. You can find out more about her classes on her website. If you (like us) are unable to attend her classes gals interested in getting themselves great crowns to wear at New Year's parties can find her collection available in her Etsy shop, "Paper Crown Queen". She also has a blog and Flickr gallery.

Gabriela has kindly shared with us a beautiful paper crown tutorial which is being sent out as a gift to the lucky 30 that managed to grab themselves a Limited Edition.

collections

Issue 2 sees the debut of a regular column about peoples "collections".
So the first cab off the rank is Marisa.
In our madness we left her blog address off the article (an oversight which we are sorry for, so much time and effort goes into making this zine, please forgive us for going a little bit crazy...).
Now Marisa is a Sydney girl (we love the local content) and when she wrote to us with her collections story I immediately fell in love. My husband and I are lovers and collectors of 50's/60's items so Marisa's 'Functional Fruit' article was right up MY alley! Check out her article on page 4 of the current issue.
Killing time blog
A little diary, tracing my creative pursuits away from my "real" day job. I love my job, but I also love doing my own stuff. In fact, I couldn't make half the work I do if I didn't have my job as it provides me with access to all sorts of cool books, ideas, wonderful people, a kiln, a polishing machine and a drill press.
Do you have a "collection"? that you would like to share? PLEASE send an article into us
